700,000 euros for a manuscript of Lope de Vega

The 532 pages of 'Codex Daza' , the only one located in the three drafts of manuscripts that are Lope de Vega, will be digitized in one month and then begin the restoration of this jewel literature The most important acquisition of the National Library in four decades.

The codex is really a portfolio that meets inside many booklets in which the letters written between 1631 and 1634 poetry, especially Eclogues (some unpublished), and fragments of known works, published while with variations.

Despite his "inestimable literary value, as has secured the National Library director Milagros del Corral, the manuscript itself has had a physical price: 700,000 euros paid with the support of the Ministry of Culture an individual whose name has not been disclosed.

This figure "highly advantageous in this context of crisis," said Del Corral.

The owners of the 'Codex Daza' wanted him out of Spain to be auctioned in London in 2004, but the State exercised its right of first refusal and, after examining the dossier, denied leave out of the country.

The person who entered the draft of Lope de Vega to issue this report was the director of Heritage Journal of the National Library, Teresa Mosque, who said that was "stunned" when he first saw time, because "it was, unmistakably, the letter of Lope and contained some works of incredible importance."

who was called 'Phoenix of Wits' by Cervantes wrote the contents of the 'Codex Daza' when I was almost a septuagenarian who is piled the misery and loneliness: in this period were killed last of his great love, Marta de Nevares, and his son Lope Félix, while the most beloved of his daughters, Antonia Clara, was kidnapped by a nobleman named Tenorio.

Tanta misery has been reflected on the specifications of the 'Codex Daza "in the words of the playwright, whose lines lose the pages neatly as they progress, but especially in his poems, which exude a melancholy tone.

the disorderly way in which poetry and works succeed in this draft or its various amendments and confirm the studs disorderly manner in which he worked the prolific Lope de Vega, who could write up to 1,800 works from which we received 400.

Once safely in the National Library begins now for the 'Codex Daza "an arduous process of restoring , though you will be digitized for researchers and readers to study it soon.

The external structure of the binder is deformed by a "misplaced" and will be consolidated inks and the most damaged areas of the paper to avoid dislodging the script, explained the restoration of the National Library Amelia Right.

The laid paper forming booklet is very good quality, because at that time the paper was made from rags, but the ink used at that time ferrogámica is too aggressive for the role and over time it erodes, said.

When restored, the draft manuscript will be scanned again, and then rest in the vault National Library, with other valuable overlooked as the Song of the Cid and Codices of Leonardo Da Vinci .

director of the institution has ensured that despite the four centuries old that has the 'Codex Daza' is possible to trace their Lope come since you compiled to date.
